There are two ‘must visit’ websites for further information about helping hedgehogs – either individuals you find that are ill – in which case the British Hedgehog Preservation Society should be your first call – or for ensuring your garden and your community are best managed for hedgehogs – then I would suggest you go to the Hedgehog Street website – and join! Become a Hedgehog Champion – over 51,000 people have already committed to helping hedgehogs.

HedgeOX can only work because of the collaborations we are building with the other amazing organisations that are working on hedgehogs in Oxfordshire. While they are not just about hedgehogs, they are about creating a more connected landscape, about furthering our understanding and about identifying the paths we must take to get the political change that will enhance the work we do on the ground.

Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) are actively managing reserves around the county and are keen to build on the links that can be made between them.

Earthwatch are a research charity that is developing a new and exciting line in urban wildlife citizen science … and a key species that will be studied is, of course, the hedgehog.

The University of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute has already been undertaking hedgehog research in the county and is open to helping us develop a ways of working with planners and developers.

Oxfordshire’s Mammal Group have an amazing array of expertise and experience among the members and they will be crucial in getting the practical work done on the ground – they are well worth joining – even if just for the winter lecture series, which is always fascinating.

Finally, for now – I point you to The Big Hedgehog Map – PLEASE add your sightings.
